The City of Melbourne's ECO Division, in partnership with Keep Brevard Beautiful and the Ocean Conservancy, is hosting the 40th Annual International Coastal Cleanup on September 20, 2025.

The event aims to tackle litter along waterways and the lagoon at Ballard Park in Melbourne, FL.

Volunteers are encouraged to bring water bottles, snacks, appropriate clothing, sunscreen, and hats.

Participants can register on Eventbrite, call the ECO Division, or email to pre-register.

The cleanup will be from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. and includes cleaning along the bank, on the water, and around the park, with kayaks and small vessels welcome.

Ballard Park will experience a temporary electricity shutdown from August 15 to August 26 due to ongoing bathroom upgrades, with full power returning by August 27.

 

During the outage, the park remains open, but lighting at basketball and tennis courts, as well as pavilion outlets, will be unavailable.

 

Visitors are encouraged to plan ahead while improvements are made to enhance the park's amenities.

 

Despite the power interruption, Ballard Park continues hosting lively community events.

 

On August 14, children can climb into vehicles and join interactive activities at the Ballard Blast’s "Touch A Truck!"

 

Nearby, Ballard Commons Park will show "Wonka" outdoors on August 15 at 7:30 PM, complete with food trucks for families to enjoy.

 

For arts enthusiasts, Ballard P-Patch’s annual "Art in the Garden" happens August 2, featuring local art, music, and hands-on fun for all ages.

Brevard Ocean Rescue officials urge swimmers to stay alert and heed red flags, with lifeguards emphasizing the importance of caution in unpredictable waters.

 

Royal Caribbean’s Vision of the Seas was forced to dock at Port Canaveral as a safety measure.

 

With up to 18 named storms forecast this season, locals and visitors are encouraged to stay tuned to official updates and prioritize safety on the coast.
